SNIPPED - long answer
As mentioned in my previous post, I upgraded our two 3k´s earlier this year with the help
of STAGE/iX. One of them was a replacement for an older machine, so I had some time to
fumble around and no real pressure to have it done on specific date.
What I do remember was:
- it was quiet easy to use the program after reading the manual
- but STAGE/iX the aborted with an error (could not find it in my memos anymore)
- the RC´s helped me immedately around and I was told that the problem which caused the
abort is already know and will be addressed in the new release
- What we had to do to finalize was (what ever it means in detail)
:RUN STAGEMAN.PUB.SYS
STAGEMAN > expert on
STAGEMAN $ complete stage_area
validate stage_area
exit
- to sum up: STAGE/iX was much faster than doing the update as the previous method
- I will cerainly use it again to apply patches etc.
cheers,
Friedrich
PS: Many thanks to SCOTT who spends so much time to share his inside knowledge with us.
