Joe,
I can't answer the question with 100% guarantee, but since it is working
with 5.0 I would feel 90% assured that it would work with 5.5. I don't
think, or remember, any routines being removed from the XL/NL, which is
typically what causes the problems with OS upgrades (remember COBOL I and
others?). So, the problem will be caused if it calls a routine that was
changed. Since CS isn't supported anymore, this isn't a test that was
done. So, this is where my 10% question comes in.
You might find one of your friendly 3rd party vendors willing to let CS be
installed and see if it at least runs. I don't know for sure, but I doubt
we (HP) would have a license problem if you ran a temporary test on an
discontinued, unsupported product. However, licenses for discontinued,
unsupported products are still enforceable as I understand it.
Probably doesn't help much,
LB

Subject: Question about some old software...
Hey folks (especially HP)...
I know the sysadmin of a company in California who uses HP Cooperative
Services (remember that relic? The one that got Client-Server started for
HP?) Well, they are using it under 5.0, and the product has been off the
price list and support for some time...
Question: If they upgrade to 5.5 (they wanted to do it this weekend) -
will
Cooperative Services still work? (they are migrating to ODBC, but for now,
they need HPCS to work). My guess is that since it's not on the Subsys
tape, but they have a license for it - it probably will - but I wouldn't
want to guarantee it.
Any clues? (especially from HP) -- I'd like to give him a call and give
him
some good news tomorrow (Friday).
TIA!
Joe
