First of all, thanks to Jens and Neil for making pkzip/iX ;-) available.

This thread (and similar ones in the past) reminds me of an underlying
problem in the "porting to mpe" area that we still might want/need to
address or resolve: The "looking for ..." or "has ... been ported" issue.

As the porting efforts and results are distributed across the internet
(or at least the HP3000-L related subset of the internet) we should
probably try to setup some kind of "MPE/iX Porting Clearinghouse" web
site/page where we collect (at least) links to all the jewels that are
already available at various different sites. People who have ported
something could "register" a short description and hyperlinks there and
thus make life much easier for those who are looking for something. The
"MPE/iX Porting Clearinghouse" might also be used to host a "suggestions
page" and some "porting tips" docs or links to such docs.

Just recall the magnificient "HP 3000 Product/Vendor Directory" that
is available at www.3k.com (thanks to Chris Bartram and Brian Duncombe)
and imagine the value of something similar being created and maintained
for the "HP 3000 Freeware/Ports Directory"...

Any volunteers out there!?

Lars.

PS: In my opinion we should not neccessarily restrict the above "Freeware
Directory" to things ported with the help of Posix. I would definitely
vote for also having links to jewels like LZW, Equater or NetMail...
