This morning someone said (I didn't get the header):
<< We, and I believe many many others, have lots of Transact programs. We
have
about 400,000 lines of Transact code in about 350 programs, which cover
everything from R&D BOMs to MRP and invoicing. .........
There is no shame in using efficient, reliable, stable, no frills tools
and
I believe Transact is definitely one of them. >>
This is a key point: The objective should be to provide
functional, reliable solutions for the end-users. In its niche
(TurboIMAGE database I/O), Transact/iX does that very well.
I think a lot a people might be surprised how many
Fortune-500 companies still have a lot of Transact code
running out there. For those that are still active, I would
encourage them to attend the SIGRAPID meeting during
IPROF-98, which will take place on 19-21 March.
Another ongoing forum for users of the RAPID products
is the sigrapid-L listserver maintained by Interex.
One final reminder while I have your attention: Keep in mind
that an enhancement to allow Transact to make full use of
TurboIMAGE intrinsic B-trees is coming soon. Plus we
expect HP will also enhance the product to allow import of
externally generated database and file ID's; this will make
it much easier to integrate Transact code with client-server
systems (the "import DB & File ID's" enhancement is still
under investigation by the RAPID Lab).
