Good call! I couldn't find a man page for gzip on an MPE/iX 5.0 system,
but HP-UX says, in part:

        The default extension is -gz for VMS, z for MSDOS, OS/2 FAT,
        Windows NT FAT and Atari.

Sounds like it has a chance!
