The DLT4000 has been supported on the HP3000 for a couple years, now.
<plug alert>
As the first company to offer advanced backup software (BACKUP/3000)
supporting DLT drives on the HP3000, we have learned a lot about how
to maximize it's performance. Perhaps your hardware reseller doesn't
have the same experience ;-)
(We also resell DLTs optimized for performamce in your particular
environment)... expect some information from your friendly ORBiT sales
rep.

HP3000 947?
We were told by our hardware reseller that it wouldn't
work.
