Thanks to all who offered assistance.
The solution to configuring on an IP network only, it turns out that it's
easy...for those who may need this for future reference...
(Assuming that Shiva Net Manager is installed, if not install it).
First, delete the preinstalled image by turning it on - then using a
paperclip, insert it into the little "pin-reset hole" in the back (and you
really need to look for that puppy) - hold it in there for three seconds...
Next, edit the file "sbootp.ini" in the Shiva folder. Enter the IP address
of the management PC, Hardware Type = Ethernet, and in the appropriate
section for your unit, the IP address, MAC address. Save the file.
Start Shiva Net Manager, Edit/Preferences - select Management Protocols and
select IP. Click OK.
Then Click Edit/Begin IP Download... After this starts - "Pin-Reset" the
unit for three seconds. In about 30 seconds, the orange lights change to
green...then the status lights for the ports go out about 30 seconds after
that. When the lights go out, Click Edit/End IP Download.
Click Edit/Discover Devices...and voila - there it is.
Thanks to Chip Dunaway at OESC and Richard Gambrell - and some credit needs
to go to Shiva who did finally help, and didn't even ask for a PO or credit
card number!
Best Regards,
Joe
