Thanks to all who replied to my original post.  Some additional info:

We've set the timeout values within Impromptu to zero, which means
(according to the help file) that Impromptu will wait forever if
necessary.  I think it's the ODBCLink/SE driver that is timing out,
because in documentation I've seen on the full version of ODBCLink,
there are pictures of a setup dialog which allows the user to enter
timeout values.  The ODBCLink/SE setup program does not have any place
to specify timeout settings (at least I couldn't find any).  If anyone
can confirm this or offer additional suggestions, I'd really
appreciate it.
