     Jon,

I believe the command that you want to use is called VSTORE. Type "HELP
VSTORE" at the CI prompt to get more info on its use. A partial listing is
     below:

     VSTORE

Verifies that the data on a backup media are valid (for example,
there are no media errors), and reports errors incurred by STORE
     when writing the tape.

     SYNTAX

     VSTORE [vstorefile][;filesetlist][;option[;...]]

Does anybody know of a utility that would allow us to verify a
TurboStore Backup made on a DDS-1 tape drive? We do our backups nightly but
frequently we need to do restores to another HP3000 for various reasons.
Unfortunately we get a lot of "media read errors". The backups are being
produced from several different HP3000(s), so one would think that it's not
the tape drives making the backup. We get the errors from several different
tape drives (on several different HP3000(s)), so one would think that it's
not the tape drives reading the backup. We clean the tape heads frequently,
as in every day or two and we are using brand new "out of the box" tapes.

Thanx,
