Klaus,
Why not ask HP?

Anyway, I have this:
 Ordering Information
 The HP 3000 979KS servers require MPE/iX Release 5.5 (First Power
 Patch: C.55.01, pre-loaded). They are on software tier 6, Opt 340.

 The 949 is on software tier 5 (Opt 335)
