Glenn, it simply means that at the Microprocessor Forum conference, the
keynote speaker will be from AMD (American Micro Devices) a company which
makes microprocessors one which one can run Windows. AMD is an alternative
to Intel, along with Cirrix and others. At that same conference HP and
Intel will be revealing some information about Merced. It is not a
conference totally dedicated to Intel.
If you need more information on alternatives to Intel, let me know. I use
Intel and AMD both.
Kind regards,
Denys. . .

The HP section on Yahoo <http://biz.yahoo.com/news/hwp.html> references an
article entitled, "Intel and Hewlett-Packard to Disclose Details of IA-64
Architecture." This begins:
"Intel and Hewlett-Packard will for the first time disclose
technical details of their collaboration to create their
next-generation architecture, dubbed IA-64, at the
Microprocessor Forum Oct. 13-16 in San Jose, Calif."
The part that confuses me is:
"The conference keynote will be presented by Jerry Sanders,
CEO of AMD, on 'A New World Order--Alternative Microsoft
Windows Platforms.'"
What does this mean? New ways to run Windows, like the WindowsCE devices?
I thought Merced was supposed to bring a "New World Order," but I haven't
heard of AMD being invited to the party.
