FWIW the couple of spoolfiles I have encountered recently with BAD
VARIABLE BLOCK STRUCTUREs have all contained $STDLIST character by
character output from /bin/awk scripts such as Jon Dierck's nifty
little program for graphical DISCFREE displays.

The BAD VARIABLE BLOCK error doesn't occur _every_ time, but only
surfaced after I added an awk script to one of my job streams and AFAIK
has not happened to any of our $STDLISTs which do not contain this sort
of output.
