Perhaps someone might have some input as to what is causing the Navy some
problems over some of its long-haul (round the world) circuits.
A networking application which uses Remote File Access and has been in
use for over a dozen years is now is unable to function. The software
moves transactions through message files in a store-and-forward manner.
When all is working well, a transaction in Italy finds its way around the
world in a second or two. With some circuits intermittent or only up
certain times on certain days, the "store" part of "store-and-forward"
comes into play.
What they now have appears to be "store-and-never-move". Identical
software runs on each of the 50+ HP 3000s. A central system is fed (and
feeds) dozens of remote sites, which then have additional systems feeding
into them. Imagine a tree with the central system being the main trunk.
Of the dozens of circuits feeding the central system, two circuits out of
about a dozen which span an ocean are having problems, and the different
ends of the circuits report different problems. Below is what the
software is reporting.
Circuit 1, outbound direction (and circuit 2, inbound)
REMOTE HELLO (successful)
REMOTE SETMSG OFF (successful)
FOPEN (remote file) (fails with FSERROR 227)
Circuit 2, inbound direction
REMOTE HELLO (successful)
REMOTE SETMSG OFF (successful)
FOPEN (remote file) (successful)
FCONTROL (remote file) (fails with FSERROR 255)
Circuit 2, outbound direction, most of the time
REMOTE HELLO (fails with CIERROR 5402 or 5082)
Circuit 2, outbound direction, about 1/4 the time
REMOTE HELLO (successful)
REMOTE SETMSG OFF (fails with CIERROR 5402)
The router gurus have been working on this problem for two weeks, and for
a few minutes at a time they can get things working, but most of the time
the network application won't work, and the largest file that can be
DSCOPYed is 1024 bytes.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks for your help!
John
