The title is "The Demon-Haunted World".  I'm in the process of reading it now;
it was my read-something-interesting choice instead of paying an exorbitant
price to watch an obscure movie on a tiny airline monitor while flying to/from
HPWorld.

Sagan would advise against burning your 3000 at the stake in an attempt to
exorcise the gremlins.  ;-)
