Well, here's the latest from the HPRC:  It seems some 2GB SeaGate 
drives in a known range of serial numbers have a tendency to hang 
the SCSI bus and disappear at will from the system configuration. 
The drive the SE brought out to install is in that range, as is 
the (only?) other drive back at HP Cleveland.  HP plans on replacing 
the controller, cables, and terminators, but doesn't know for sure 
if that will cure anything.

So, I'm here waiting.  I've called the HPRC and hopefully the 
call will be escalated to someone who actually knows how to fix 
this problem.
