From the LaserjetII User Manual:-

1. Make sure both the computer and printer are switched off.

2. Connect the parallel cable between the printer and the computer

3. Turn the printer on.

4. Take the printer Off-Line.

5. Hold the MENU key down (about 5 seconds) until SYMSET=ROMAN-8* is
displayed.

6. Press the MENU key twice to display I/O=SERIAL*. (If I/O=PARALLEL* is
displayed, skip to step 9.)

7. Use the + key to select I/O=PARALLEL.

8. Press the ENTER/RESET/MENU key to save the selection. (An * will
appear in ther display.)

9. Return the printer On-Line.
