I just got an interesting message (which appears to be private, so I'll
bypass the sender's name):

I began my HP-related career with the 2100 (the predecessor of the 1000) in
the early 1970s.  I love that machine so much that I still have one.  I
even brought it from Guatemala to Sun Valley in 1988.

So, I can certainly relate to these feelings.
