Thanks everyone for the responses!

OK, where is where things stand now.  I have my form (method is POST)
calling the modified Perl script (with the changes made that Mark Bixby
recommended) and unfortunatly it still doesn't operate properly -- the
CGI response never appears and the original form stays on the screen with
the browser (Netscape 3.0 Gold) waiting for a reply from the host.

I changed my form to call the nph-test-cgi script and it the value
returned in CONTENT_LENGTH appears correct.  I guess that that means that
my next step is to go back to the Perl book and figure out how to read
a specific number of bytes.  I'm also going to check out the CGI.pm
module that Mark mentioned.

If anyone has any additional suggestions (or sample code for reading
CONTENT_LENGTH bytes from STDIN), please pass them along!
