Subject: RE: PCL Printers

PCL or Printer Control Language was developed by HP to set their standard
for controlling printers. Currently if you buy a Laserjet printer, it will
support PCL5 which is a large set of control sequences to place the printer
into different fonts, CPI, and the list goes on. The control sequences
alone take up pages and pages of the manual.

Line printers support perhaps PCL2, which was the second generation of PCL.
Our reports only use simple control sequences to set CPI and afew other
things. We need PCL as otherwise we would have to configure a special
driver for the printer and recode reports for this client.

I would be interested in what model of the 2563 you have available. I am
not certain they will pay 1500 at this point as they gave me 1000 as a cap.

I will check back with our client and let you know.

Thanks

Dave-

The HP 2563 or LM series of line printers run about $1500 reconditioned.
They are workhorses. CPI can be set with ROMs. I'm not sure what you mean
by PCL 1 or better. Would one of these work?
