The update path to MPE/iX 5.5 is:

Pre: 4.0 releases - You need to update to 4.0 before moving on.
MPE/iX 4.0 release - You can update directly to 5.5.
MPE/iX 4.5 release - You should update to the General Release of 5.0
                                before updating to 5.5.
MPE/iX 5.0 (Pull Release) - You should update to the General Release
                                of 5.0 before updating to 5.5.
MPE/iX 5.0 (General Release) - You can update directly to 5.5.

We have updated a number of 4.0 systems to 5.5 with no problems.
