Joe,
Thanks for your reply. Your performance observations are similar to the
responses that I've received from others -- fast disk I/O using both
RAID and F/W SCSI will have a big impact on Oracle performance. Also,
the more memory the better. Applications must be "well-behaved" or else
performance will suffer dramatically (as your outer join example showed).

We've just installed Oracle on a 969-200 today. This is a
demo/evaluation
which could potentially turn into a full-blown installation running 24
hours
a day.

Sounds like finding an Oracle consultant with HP3000 knowledge is very
difficult. Does Oracle have techs in their customer support group with
HP3000 experience? How important is HP3000 experience in solving Oracle
related issues?

Again, thanks for the time and effort you have made in responding to my
questions. I hope to contribute my observations once our applications
are up and running.

Steve

We have Oracle on our HP987/150, 10 gb database. We access the database
through SQLNET using Powerbuilder as the front end. Here are my
observations :

7. Oracle support. He is very good. So far, though, I have found only
one
proficient with the HP3000 in the US.
