<rant>

I kept the full text of Ron's message for those on SIGWeb-L who are
not on HP3000-L... sorry for the bandwidth waste - but for them,
it's not..

I just read this in the NewsWire not 5 minutes ago and I didn't get
past the third paragraph before I wanted someone's rearend on a
silver platter! As co-chair of SIGWeb - and have had some e-mail
dialog with Daren Connor - I'm a little more than miffed that I
didn't hear about this a little sooner and had to read it in the
press...

Well HP - here's the scoop - and I'm sure that it will come out loud
and clear in Chicago --- our HP-UX brethren get a web server free of
charge in HP-UX, correct? It's "Netscape Lite" - but a web server
nevertheless... Will one be bundled with the HP3000???

Or...there's Apache - freeware - and beats the pants (or skirt - pick
your gender) off OpenMarket and most other servers out there -
Including Netscape Commerce (and other Netscape) servers

Or... QWEBS ... practially freeware - CGI scripts are subroutines in
an XL and dosen't need POSIX, and be written in COBOL! (My website
is powered by QWEBS on port 80)

Yes, I'm stirring up the pot - and I hope to hell that SIGWeb members
who are HP3000 users read this and get really ticked off! If you
are, or even if you're not --- let's show HP that the 3000 is as
viable as the 9000 in the internet community and "we don't need no
steeeeenkin' OpenMarket" - put into MPE/iX FOS, the same thing that
is put into HP-UX...

Lastly - Daren Connor asked us our opinions - he got mine - did he
get yours? If not - then plan to be at SIGWeb, at HPWorld '97,
Tuesday from 6:00 to 7:50... and if you can't be there - then e-mail
or fax or mail me your issues, or post them on [log in to unmask]
so we can get them included. My HP3000 handles SMTP mail, Web
traffic, FTP and DNS --- and it does so VERY well...
