Keeping Roy's 'offensive and wasteful' in mind...

You are right about the common usage of Pommie, it also has the same
meaning in NZ slang. I did hear a story once that the term was 'Pome' which
meant Prisoner Of Mother England and referred to the convicts transported
to Aus.
