believe that the reason was/is firmware compatibility issues with the CIO
SCSI card (based upon the fact that they are supported on NIO SCSI).
 These decisions were made 4+ years ago (around 3.0 days?) so the
specifics are a little vague in my mind...>>


FWIW, this incompatibility of the C24xx line extends to other platforms;
the Adaptec AHA-2940UW adapter in my PC refuses to operate with a C2474S,
though it works fine with a C3010M1 and a number of different Micropolis,
Fujitsu, and Seagate drives. The Future Domain TMC-1680 in the other box
has no problem with the C2474S.
