I think the comment is way out of alignment with reality; and if it was an
attempt at being funny it certainly didn't stike me as appropriate. I,
along
with a number of others on this list have contributed a lot of effort in
working with HP to improve IMAGE and take exception to the remark. If the
product mentioned were one of the various compilers, or even QUERY, then it
would have clearly been more meaningful. But IMAGE and the IMAGE Lab Team
and
those active members working in SIGIMAGE are certainly not deserving of
this
type of comment.

/soapbox off

Jerry (SIGIMAGE Chairman Emeritus)

We'll your soapbox may be higher than mine because of your status and
therefore has more credibility. I'm just a dumb user, and I still remember
vividly what appeared to me cries of outrage just a few years past when it
seemed Critical Item Update and other items would never get worked on. I
also remember what appeared to me to be what was then called the "user
revolt" at a certain Interex convention (was it Boston?)

I hope there wasn't anybody back then with power and prestige who put the
users "down" because they didn't think it was appropriate. Just because
the users cries have finally been heard in recent years doesn't mean it
won't happen again. HP has already set a precedent of ignoring users in
the past and if we all forget that we were abused it is perhaps certain HP
will repeat it. I choose to remember the past by making light of it,
however it doesn't mean it is inappropriate.

Free speech forever!

I also don't think users should start becoming complacent because their
requests are being worked on, with all due respect to those that are
working on it now. I also think it wasn't their decision, and I'm also
sure the decent, hardworking, and dedicated people who are working on these
enhancements would be working on something else if it weren't for user
complaints over the years.
