Who really needs yet another password? Even though group passwords are not
prompted for if logging onto one's home group, any passwords should be
changed regularly if they are to be of any real use. Since proper use of
GL renders group passwords unnecessary (subject to the caveat following),
they should be avoided in order to eliminate the accompanying password
maintenance requirement.
I can think of only one instance where group passwords may be necessary.
Since there may be some environments where group logon times are measured
and limited and/or billed for, the simple act of logging on to a different
group needs to be prevented. In such situations, group passwords may be
required. A school classroom environment is one possible example that comes
to mind.
