As you point out, it's not the cost of the hardware (at least if
you go with used equipment), but when you find the system
you want and then add in the cost of the software then get
sticker shock when you call in for a quote on software
support, the price may have just blown past your budget.

Why not look at 925, 935, 948's?
These boxes are almost free in the used market.
You don't need blazing speed for development work.
The money saved can be applied (over several years) to
support.
