The ability to programmatically 'know' who I am is apparent in that my
PC tries to connect to other servers with my 'Windows' logon. I have
noticed that if I have the same id but a different password on another
server, I get a logon dialog. I suppose that one's application could
read an ini or registry entry for the account, and either use the
Windows logon id as the user, or get that from an ini or registry and
use the Windows logon id as the session name. Then, if the password was
the same, connect transparently; otherwise, prompt me for an MPE
password.

None of this, however, answers the question: how is this accomplished?
In fact, the only reason I am 'wasting bandwidth' by replying is
because I believe it is possible, based on the above examples. And, if
VeSoft put out such widgets, I would be inclined to trust them
implicitly.
