You don't indicate which version of MPE you're on, but I recall in the cobwebs
of my brain, something mentioned in the bowels of the 5.5 Communicator that
changes this behavior for intrinsic access to the files. If you're on 5.0 or
using mapped I/O, lotsa luck.
