Well, I found out why the file was disappearing.

Upon closer examination of the $stdlist, I found the job was deleting the
file.

I didn't write the jobstream (it's a vendor's demo!).
I guess I should have expected something like this given all of the
other problems I have had with this demo.  (why am I getting suspicious of
this package!?!?)
