This is not rocket science, people.  The hacked syslog() calls merely
write to the calling process's $stdlist.  No more, no less.  We have
an active syslogd daemon on our machine (3rd party gizmo) and it never
sees the HP generated output.  HP's just writes the data to $stdlist.
