Anyone using telnet/ix server (host-based telnet) on MPE/iX 5.5, even
with (perhaps especially with) PowerPatch 1 installed should take note:
I recently (two weekends ago) found time to install the PowerPatch 1
(general release version) on our two 9x0 systems. On Monday, our 960
had a system abort 1350 around noon. The 950 followed shortly after
with an SA1049 (I think, notes at the office). Both were traced down
by the HPRC to problems fixed with the current telnet/ix server patch
PTDEDF6A available on their web site.
It could be a case of rotten luck on my part, but caveat emptor.
On a positive note, the web patch database, Stage/iX and Patch/iX make
fixing things like this a breeze. My staged patches, created today
during production hours, are being booted (plain START NORECOVERY with
absolutely zero UPDATE/tape delays) as I type.
