A couple of weeks ago, I posted a help message about connecting a US
Robotics MP/8 modem bank up to a DTC48 on an HP 3000. I received a number
of replies, and really appreciate the help. As a result of the replies, we
were able to get the modem bank working; however, there were some
variations in the configuration info we received, so it took a while to
zero in on the optimum config.
Anyway, the following info documents our findings. I hope others in the
future can use this.
CABLE PINOUTS:
US ROB. RJ-45 HP-DTC DB25 Male
-----------------------
----------------------------
1 Ring Indicate 20
2 DCD 4
3 DTR 6
4 SGND 7
5 RX 2
6 TX 3
7 CTS 22
8 RTS 8
NOTES: 1. The DTC ignore Ring Indicate anyhow.
2. US Robotics doesn't have DSR output.
AT COMMND SETUP STRINGS:
-----------------------------------------------
AT&F
ATB0C1E1F1Q0V1X1
AT&A1&B1&C1&D2&G0&H0&I0&K1&L0&M4&N0&P0&R1&S1&T4&X0&Y1
ATS0=1S58=1
AT&W
NOTES: 1. ALL 0=zero (there are no letter O's).
2. We had to set S58=1 (DSR) to get the thing to
answer.
DIP SWITCH SETTINGS:
------------------------------------
Switches 3, 8, and 9 are set to ON.
Everything works fine, except the user must press <Enter> after connection
to get a DTC prompt. (Some of our old modems do not require pressing any
keys to get a DTC prompt.) This may be a result code suppression disabling
the carriage return in the connection sequence.
Anyway, thanks again to all who responded!
Tim
