Read that page very carefully (particularly the lower part, entitled
"Windows NT's unfinished business"). You will be shocked in more ways than
one. Or perhaps you will not be shocked, because you have submissively
learned to accept such a situation as "normal and expected" and "who are
you to complain", etc.

Given that sad situation, HP has a golden opportunity (served on a silver
plate, to mix metaphors) to spread the good word about the HP3000 as an
Enterprise Server (HP's own words).

In fact, at the bottom-right of page 16, you can read, "Windows NT 4.0...
has a number of flaws that make it difficult for us to use it as a
stand-alone enterprise server".

In response, HP can proudly say: "The HP3000 is so solid and reliable (and
so well-behaved in a multi-platform environment) that it is easy to use an
HP3000 as an enterprise server in an INTEGRATED environment. Naturally,
the HP3000 shines best when used as an online transaction processor with
its native-mode TurboIMAGE DBMS using its native-mode intrinsic access (no
SQL server in the industry can even come close). In addition, TurboIMAGE
is well-behaved and allows read/write access through SQL..." etc.

HP marketing is VERY interested in publishing HP3000 success stories and is
ACTIVELY requesting actual customer input. Do you have any RECENT
experiences regarding the HP3000 versus common platforms? What would you
recommend to your dear ones, if you wanted to keep them from having painful
experiences?

In the recent past, good HP3000 stories on HP3000-L have been of a
"nostalgic" orientation. That is certainly great. How about some more
CURRENT stories that HP marketing can use NOW to spread the good word about
the HP3000?

I have a collection (from HP3000 postings and from private communications).
But the more, the merrier.

Use page 16 of the March 17/1997 issue of Computerworld as inspiration
regarding what to AVOID if you mean serious business. Use your real-life
experiences with the HP3000 as inspiration regarding what to proactively
recommend for SERIOUS companies that mean SERIOUS business.

Hewlett-Packard's very own HP3000 is a strong contender, as you know quite
well. The problem is that the masses out there do NOT know. The solution?
Education! And what is the best way to educate? Through good stories.

If you agree, keep posting your success stories. The appropriate people at
HP are eagerly waiting...

Happy story telling.
