First, are you trying to add some drives or replace some drives?
Looking at your internal configuration:
Device Adapter(52) --- A1703-60003-SCSI SCSI
Device(52.0.0) [ ldev 7 HPC1503A TAPE]
Device(52.3.0) [ ldev 4 HPC2490AM DISK]
Device(52.4.0) [ ldev 3 HPC2490AM DISK]
Device(52.5.0) [ ldev 2 HPC3010M1 DISK]
Device(52.6.0) [ ldev 1 HPC2474S DISK]
Your disk drive slots are all taken up. You have three places where
disks can live. Two of those will support either one full-height or
two half-height, the other(top left as you're facing the 957) will
hold either one full-height or one half-height. There are three power
connects on each side, so the maximum number of devices is three on
each side(six). As you're facing the 957, the right side supports two
removable media(DAT and/or CD-ROM) devices on top, and either one
full-height or two half-height disks on bottom(but the total number of
devices on the right side can only be three). The left side supports
one disk(half- or full-height) on top and either one full-height or
two half-height disks on the bottom. Based on the disks you have,
which generation they came from, and how they would "normally" be
installed, I would guess(since you can't tell from an I/O config) that
the physical layout is:
---------------------------------------------
Front of 957
C3010M1(FH) DAT
Space for either DAT or CD-ROM
C2490AM(HH) C2474S(FH) [Could put two HH's here since
C2490AM(HH) there's no CD or 2nd DAT]
Power Supply Power Supply
--------------------------------------------
To increase your internal disk capacity, your best bet would probably
be to replace the C2474S with two half-height disks. There are other
possibilities but the iterations exceed my mental capacity and time at
this moment.

I don't understand this statement. There is no UPS in a 957...there
is a battery backup for memory. If you do put a A3352A in your 957,
then HP says you MUST use a UPS(external, of course) for your 957
since the A3352A does not have the same power-fail recoverability as
HP's older disks(I believe this is the 'sector atomicity' issue).
