If anyone out there has an HP 712 workstation with an external
cd-rom, and a voltmeter, please take a moment and help me out.

Our department received from inventory a 712 with external cd-rom,
only the external 12-V adapter to power the external cd-rom was
missing. Inventory had already destroyed any information about
what department the machine had come from (thats government for you)

I have already soldered up a new 4-pin minidin plug, and have an
extra computer power supply I can use for the transformer. I need
to know which pins are 12V, which are ground, and if any are 5V.

I have tried HP (who want to sell me a new power supply for $62 or
charge $25 to talk to tech support who may or may not be of any
help). I have tried searching the web, posting here, even asking
our university computer support if they have records of anyone else
with a 712 on campus.

Please, please help if you have a 712 w/ external cd-rom
(mine is product # A2655A)

Thank you,
Keith Ruckstuhl, Ph.D.
