I just received this piece of intelligence from a friend:

Hi Alfredo,

Here is a recent ad from IBM. Who can be our Greg Lemond?

----------

"As I expand my business [ a Bruegger's Bagel franchise chain], I need
to preserve capital to invest in new restaurants. [IBM's] AS/400
Advanced Entry is priced right and is so inexpensive and simple to
use, it practically runs itself. That means I can run my restaurants,
instead of my computer system."
One Greg Lemond (pictured in suit and tie carrying road bike a
la cyclocross on his shoulder) quoted in IBM ad in The Guardian
(London) March 10, 1997)

Here is part of my answer to my friend:

The HP3000 has MUCH MORE than just "one Greg Lemond" and his lonely bike :-)

You might want to switch to another analogy: The New York Marathon!

There is no lack of talented, hard-working HP3000 people who can say
exactly the same thing about their beloved HP3000 that Greg says about the
AS/400 in this IBM ad. In fact, I am posting a survey to HP3000-L as I
type this. Let's see what happens :-)

Any volunteers? I'll be delighted to feature HP3000 success stories on the
back cover of Interact magazine as my way of putting my money where my
mouth is. Perhaps HP can do some kind of "matching fund" stuff to publish
similar ads on the mainstream press, to spread the good news (which the
HP3000 faithful already know quite well) to the masses.

Let's be proactive!
