Hi All :)
Ok, I posted a similar note as Denys and forgot to add that we have on our
network that "passive monitoring may be performed and the results of such turned
over to the proper authorities
Ok, I found and have included the text of our network "dial-in" welcome
messge. This was developed in conjunction with the University's staff and legal
department.
They pointed out that it is not the best but will "help" should we have to
pursue legal actions with anyone.

Go one step further and put in that access to the system is restricted to
authorized users or some such verbiage. In other words, tell people to
keep off if they are not supposed to be on the machine.
Kind regards,
Denys. . .

Subject: Security Tip
In this morning's digested version of HP3000-L, I saw something that has
prompted me to post this message. Here is what I saw:
> *******************************
> * WELCOME TO THE HP3000 *
> * SERIES 928 !! *
> *******************************
At a seminar on security about a year or so ago, the speaker mentioned
that, in a (then) recent computer hacker lawsuit, the hacker was ACQUITTED
because, on the organization's computer, the word "Welcome" appeared in
the system's welcome message. That might be stretching things a bit from
our standpoint, yet that is exactly how the judge viewed it. So since we
don't want to find ourselves in the same position as the lawsuit's
organization, we've removed 'WELCOME' from all of our machines. Our
"welcome message" says simply:
