Paul,

We've implemented Jumbo datasets on one database with very little
impact - other than to available free space. :)

In answer to your questions:

  1. We use Orbit's backup software, but if RR supports HFS syntax in
its fileset specs, you should be able to get the new HFS files.
Orbit supports the @[log in to unmask]@ syntax of MPE's :STORE in that this as-
sures backup of HFS namespace files unless specifically excluded.

  2. I'm not certain if DBGeneral supports Jumbo datasets, yet - we're
on the latest release (7.0.30), and I don't see any reference to
this in the manual or online help. We use Adager for all dataset
capacity changes, anyway, and JDS is supported, there.

  3. MPEX should copy the files, provided you use HFS syntax to speci-
      fy the source files.

To All,

It was about to happen. While trying to expand the capacity of a dataset,
we got the error message that such an expansion would created a file larger
that 4GB which is not supported by MPE/iX (or something to that effect).

We are now considering changing that dataset into a Jumbo dataset and would
like to hear from anyone that has already done it. The specific concerns
that we have are (I've asked the vendors already but have not heard back,
maybe they are all attending IPROF?):

1. Would RoadRunner still be able to store/restore the entire database
(including the HFS files used to support the Jumbo datasets)?

2. Would DBGeneral still allow us to perform database changes?

3. Would MPEX copy the HFS files that are used to support the Jumbo
datasets when copying the entire database?

I'd appreciate your comments to the above questions. If you would not mind
talking to me e-mail me your phone number and I'll call you back.

Regards
