This document refers to common issues/questions/policies regarding the
mailing list and newsgroup itself, not to be confused with the much more
thorough "HP3000-L FAQ" which concerns itself with MPE and the 3000. It
is available from http://www.3k.com and ftp://ftp.3k.com

1. What is HP3000-L and comp.sys.hp.mpe? What is the difference?

HP3000-L is an electronic mailing list administered by Listserv(r) mail
list software from LSoft International (http://www.lsoft.com) as are
thousands of other mailing lists. comp.sys.hp.mpe is a usenet newsgroup
which is "echoed" to the HP3000-L mailing list (and vice-versa) by the
netnews gateway at American University. This cross-posting often leads
to a loss of chronological sequence of postings between the two due to
lags in newgroup postings reaching the gateway, and mailing list posts
reaching the gateway. If you have the time and patience, it would help
the chronology of the list to reply to newsgroup postings to the e-mail
list address <[log in to unmask]> rather than follow-ups to the newsgroup,
but this is optional. You may participate in both forums, but please
do not post articles to both forums as they will duplicate. They will
appear in both places (unless the net daemons intervene) by posting to
either one.
