I've got 50 of the 150 tapes made. I've test-installed all of the
software on MPE/iX 5.0 and MPE/iX 5.5, and it all seems to work just
great (I've never gotten Samba to talk to my Win95 PC, but it does
talk to the WinNT client just fine).

So, it looks like we'll have a very nice tape available at IPROF!

What's on it? Glad you asked!

The FREEWARE account contains the following groups:
ADAGER -- some utilities contributed by Adager
ALLEGRO -- some utilities contributed by Allegro
APACHE -- The Apache web server for MPE
FREEMAIL -- A free two-mailbox email server from 3K Associates
GNUCORE -- Mark Klein's port of the GNU software
GNUGCC -- The GNU C++ compiler
GNUGROFF -- The GNU text formatting and man tools
GNULIBS -- The GNU C++ libraries and headers
   GNUPERL -- GNU Perl
JAVADOC -- The JAVA API documentation in html format
JAVAJDK -- The JAVA Developer's Toolkit
JAVAVM -- The JAVA Virtual Machine
NCSAWEB -- The NCSA web server for MPE
PYTHON -- Gavin Scott's port of the Python language
SAMBA -- The Samba client/server for MPE

Please note that some of this software is beta; some of it is even
pre-beta. Read the README file in each group, use at your own risk,
batteries not included, close cover before striking, seat cushions
may be used as a flotation device, etc.

Thanks to all of the contributers!!!

Extra-special thanks to Mark Klein for a heroic last-minute effort to
make the GNU stuff work on MPE/iX 5.0, since the problems were *not*
his fault.

Extra-special thanks to Stan Sieler for patiently answering many
stupid questions that I was too pressed for time to solve for myself.

Extra, extra special thanks to everyone who else who contributed
ideas, work, etc. and whom I've forgotten to mention.

Most special of all thanks to my wife for coming to the office late
to help me make the tapes.

See you all there! I'll be the one with the dark circles under my
eyes; or, get a preview of me doing my space-alien impression at:
