I usually call the command intrinsic with a FILE X;DEV=xyz command and
check the return cierr/ciwarn value.  I don't remember the exact value to
look for, but a simple try in the CI and display of HPCIERR should work
(or is that HPCIERROR?, it's late, and I'm at home).
