With all due respect, what do you mean by "an industry leader like Oracle"?
- Performance?
- Initial cost?
- Number of concurrent users?
- Ongoing cost of ownership and operation?
- Square miles of advertisement in Computerworld?
- Price per user?
- Technical support?
- Upgrade fees?
- Reliability and ease of recovery when Oracle crashes?
- Expenses involved in dedicated personnel to fiddle with Oracle?
- Ease of upgrading to a new version of Oracle?
- Cost and quantity of the hardware required by Oracle to just get by?
- Ease of day-to-day management?
- Cost of escaping from Oracle into some other DBMS?
- Age of Oracle's kernel?
- Whatever else I haven't explicitly mentioned...
Would anybody else care to comment and share their stories (either success
stories or horror stories) regarding their real-world experiences with
Oracle? I'll move to Oracle and drop IMAGE immediately, as soon as someone
can convince me that it is the wise thing to do.
Has anyone STUDIED the Oracle newsgroups? It's an eye-popping experience,
for sure, compared with the gentle tone of the HP3000 newsgroups (which, of
course, include the IMAGE newsgroups).
Just curious :-)
