I checked my 2563A Service Manual, no mention of the battery... but then
the manual is not intended for component level debug, just board level.
It did mention non-volatile RAM... but a battery powering RAM is hardly
non-volatile. Maybe the words battery-backed up RAM would have been a
better choice.
I suspect that it is a nicad with welded posts that is soldered into one
of the boards. If someone comes up with a decent description of it in
size, markings, etc. perhaps I can locate a source for them. I suspect
there are a few of us who's printer is still going strong (mostly) and has
been off of maintenance for years.
I converted mine from HP-IB to serial a couple of years ago when we went
from a 922 to a 918. Easy for anyone with a screwdriver and a static
wrist grounding strap.
I am sorry we didn't get the parallel, so I could try putting it on my
JetDirect EX.
