Our friend Ron Seybold was wrong on one little detail.
He said:

>It's Series 925/935/949. The first two models are some
>of the oldest PA-RISC systems in existence. (To my
>knowledge, only the 930, which was never shipped,
>and the 950 predate them).

Sorry, Ron, they DID ship a few 930's. I know, because
I ordered and installed and was system manager for one
here at NUWC Division Keyport in 1987. I believe Keyport
and Boeing got the first two then-MPE/XL boxes in the
Pacific Northwest (think they had a 950). But you are
close to being right: Only a few 930's actually got out to
customer sites; maybe ~ 100.

.... And of course they didn't last long: Not too far into
1988, our HP sales rep (yes, we actually had a real, live,
local sales rep back then) asked us if we wanted to
upgrade our 930 to a 950; they were offering a real good
deal.... We said "No thank you; the 930 does what we
need for now"..... After which they proceeded to give us
a brand new 935 at no cost... ;-)

I still have that good ol' 935 in one of the short roll-around
cabinets... We used to run up to 80 users on it. It works
pretty well as a small end table... Enough of making
myself feel old for today...
