Hello all!
Well, since Wirt's calm, reasoned replies about tiered pricing make
it hard for me to continue to rant and rave about that, I found
something else to rant and rave about: MPE/iX 5.5!
We upgraded our machine yesterday (1/26/97) from 4.0 to 5.5. We
had nothing but trouble. Files failed to restore from the FOS and
SUBSYS tapes with FSERR 105 (Bad Variable Block Structure). I had
to shuck and jive the system into coming up by skipping one file on
the FOS restore (STCODEDB.PUB.HPNCS) and restoring what I could off
of the SUBSYS tape and then, when restarting AUTOINST the second time
(or was it the third time - I've lost track!), telling it there was
no SUBSYS tape. Not to mention the errors in the HP3000 MPE/iX
System Software Maintenance Manual Release 5.5 (like telling you to
enter :PURGEGROUP [log in to unmask], which does *not* work).
Anyway, the system is up now and the Response Center is checking out
the restore problems I had (they say it is file corruption, we need
to run FSCHECK and purge the offending files), but I have one nagging
problem: We keep getting console messages after every spool file
prints "The last name component of the pathname does not exist in the
directory / HP Directory message 1". Is this a known problem? Is
there a patch to fix it? It's not critical, just annoying.
Thanks for letting me vent, again!
