Mark (and whoever else may be interested):

Well, after more time, trial, and pain than I care to discuss, we have
finally gotten our 968 and our UPS to communicate. It turns out that there
is indeed a bug and that the bug will most likely not show itself if you
are on a system that came pre-configured with MPE/iX 5.0 (as our 918 did).
However, if you upgraded from a previous release (as we did with our 968),
and particularly if you ever went into the UPS configuration screen in
NMMGR (and did a SAVE DATA), then you will most likely have this problem.

The solution was to purge the existing NMCONFIG.PUB.SYS file and to
re-create it from scratch, making sure that we did NOT go to the UPS
configuration screen. We just left it at its default settings. An ugly
workaround, to be sure, but it did work. HP is now working on a permanent
fix for the problem.

The UPS Install From Hell here has stalled at a point where my 969 running
5.5 is unable to talk to the HP UPS through the UPS port on the MFIO card.

Both my HP CE and VAR CE say this is happening to a large number of
machines.
UPSUTIL.MPEXL.TELESUP reports "down/broken", and UPS event system logging
reports read timeouts on the UPS port.

Is anybody else out there experiencing this problem, or perhaps more
importantly, are there any 969 owners out there successfully communicating
with
your UPS?
