Subject: Routable DTC stuff

Someone just asked me what the requirements are for setting up a remote DTC
using the routable DTC protocols. Can someone point me in the direction of
where this stuff is documented? Specifically what the requirements are for
the "local" DTC (models that will work, required versions, etc.) and
"remote" DTC (same things), and how you go about configuring it all.

I've seearched HP's support web site, and the 5.5 LaserRom, but couldn't
find anything obvious.

Scott,

I am no expert but we looked into this recently (Sept 96) as we have a
number of remote DTC's (Bridged) using ACC Bridge/Routers and wanted to
move to a routed network. We could not find much by way of definitive help
from HP either, but I a short version went thus :

Requirements :

1) You need a domain name server on the network
2) You need an Openview/DTC Manager PC on each segment or site
where a DTC is to sit (You cannot route the download or request)
3) You can use DTC72MX or DTC16RX DTC's only (this I am not sure of)

Others on this list will I am sure give you a full blodded answer as to
where
this is officially but we had real difficulty getting anything definitive
from
our HP contacts. Mail me if you need more and I'll try and find
some of the references we used.

In the end we purchased an ethernet switch and keep one part of the
network routed and the sites requiring DTC's bridged.
