Status of the ongoing 1997 SIGIMAGE ballot process is:

>> **** WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH YET **** <<

I just checked with Interex on the total number of 1997
SIGIMAGE Enhancement Ballots that have been returned
to the Interex office so far. I added that number to the total
number of ballots I have received via e-mail, at the
designated [log in to unmask] address.

The deadline for 1997 SIGIMAGE Enhancement Ballots
is of course still 20 days away, and the procrastination
factor may apply here. And in one sense the fewer
people that vote the more each ballot that is sent in will
count, and the more influence each of those ballots (like
mine) will have on what enhancements HP does next.

HOWEVER:
HP will also look at the total number of ballots returned,
to get an overall calibration of the level of interest in
additional enhancements to Image/SQL. I.e.: I refer the
gentle reader back to the second line of this message.

Everyone who is on the SIGIMAGE membership list
should have received a hardcopy of the 1997 SIGIMAGE
Enhancement Ballot, the accompanying Enhancement
Proposals detailed descriptions, and the latest issue of
the SIGIMAGE newsletter. Except perhaps for some
sites outside of North America, members should have
received this mailing a month or more ago. I also
posted a complete copy of the 1997 Ballot to 3000-L in
the same time-frame.

If somehow you still managed to avoid getting or seeing
a 1997 Ballot, let me know and I will email you another
copy.

It is even more important than usual that we get a good
return on the 97 ballot, since the HP R&D Database Lab
will be completing work on several major projects in the
near future, and will need broad-based guidance on what
to work on next. Plus HP has recently emphasized that
individual SIG enhancement request rankings are a key
factor driving further product enhancement work by the
R&D Labs.

So if you are an Image user, * P L E A S E * take the
few minutes required to fill out a 1997 Ballot and e-mail
or real-mail it back to Interex at the designated address.
There is still time. Every vote is important, and we need
yours !!
