Hi Donna,
Well, I did this with my 957 a few months back. :) hehehe and lived to tell
about it :)

Not much pain to the process with MPE/iX 5.0 but wouldn't have wanted to do
it with 4.x!

Ok, of course you have to connect the 3k to the network server (most likely
just connect the thinnet cable from the 3k to the network server) and then start
up the network services on the 3k!

Now there are some other things but I am sure someone will explain them
much better than I could :)

You will need to make sure that the TCP/IP stacks (???) are running
correctly for reflection and all that good stuff...

My major gotcha was that the IP address on the HP was set incorrectly.
and as such messed things up :( but the Response Center worked me thru that real
well :)

hi!

well, *that* day seems to have arrived - time to put my 3000 on a lan!
since this is a brave new world for me, i thought i'd better check
with the collective wisdom about what i need to know and do.

my hp is a 918 running 5.0 and i've only been using dtcs to connect my
users - real simple and straight forward. the new pc server is
running novell (egad, i know). only *two* of my user's are going to
be getting network cards - the rest are keeping their serial/dtc
connections. these 2 lucky users still need to access the hp - but,
of course, now over the network. (i've got (plug?) wrq's vt software
(/plug)). regarding communications - the novell server and the hp DO
NOT need to talk to each other - no file transfers, no c/s stuff. (my
serial connections have been using cat 5, utp, 4-pair wire - so i the
physical aspects of the network shouldn't (knock, knock :-) be a
problem...)

* what do i need to 'tell' my hp about being able to accept network
(vs. serial) connections?
* how do i find out the ip address of the hp?
* what does my connection topology need to look like? hub then dtc?
or dtc then hub? (i suspect the 1st...)
* what is missing from this picture? :-)

you can answer via email or to the group - either is fine. thanks!!
